Summary
Makropol, the Danish creative studio known for its virtual reality work, is planning to open the world's first “XR cinema” in Copenhagen.During my internship at Makropol, I worked with a small team on the development of a new VR experience, that will premiere in 2020. My responsibilities included designing, building, and programming the environments, as well as the interactive content. Most of the work took place in Unity which was used to build a VR experience for Oculus Quest.During my internship, I learned what an XR film could mean for the future of cinema, the creation process, and how the digital world connects with the real world. I was excited about the possibilities of making cinema in VR, as well as by the prospect of being able to reach into new and interesting worlds through immersive media. Below is an example of my work done in Unity and the new Lightweight Render Pipeline for a quick 1-day prototype. For this candy inspired environment I was asked to come up with a candyfloss cloud, which I implemented using a vertex shader with custom height maps made in Photoshop. The shader is configurable and can be easily stylized to match any desired look.
